Griffin

Beast Brute

Nobody knew griffins were real until the opening of the Underworld. As near as humans knew, they had dreamed up the answer to the question, "What if a lion had an eagle's head and eagle's wings and a serpent as a tail?" Then, they explored the Underworld and found that these things were real.

Like any invasive species, griffins are a nuisance. They have no ecological niche that they really fit into. They're like kudzu or Asiatic carp. They swarm. Luckily, griffins are extremely good sport, and nobles love to hunt them.

Griffins understand Chivalric but cannot speak.

Notes

  • Fleet.

On their turn, the griffin can Move 2 zones without spending a card.

Lesser dooms

  • Flight.

If they have enough space, the griffin can fly as a Move action. While flying, they lazily circle through the air. This keeps the griffin out of melee engagement, though they're still vulnerable to ranged weapons.

    • While flying, the griffin can make a fly-by attack. On the same turn as it makes a fly-by attack, the griffin can be targeted by melee attacks. This does not cause the griffin to become engaged.
  • Talons.

On a successful Attack, if the griffin's total Attack value is double the Initiative of the target, deal 2 Wounds.

Greater dooms

  • Grab.

When you Roughhouse, discard a greater doom card to attempt to grab the target. If successful, the target is Rooted and moves with the griffin.

    • If the griffin is flying (or if the grab is done during a fly-by attack), it can choose to drop its victim on a subsequent turn as a free action. The victim suffers falling damage based on the height of the room.
    • The target can Recover from this effect as normal, but will suffer falling damage if they use this action while the griffin is flying.
    • Any Attacks that miss the griffin automatically hit the grabbed victim instead.
